Keeping his eye on the Ball!
BBC News presenter and Afternoon Live anchor Simon McCoy will be reading the news for the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show!
Zoe Ball's takeover from Chris Evans on Radio 2's Breakfast Show at the start of 2019 was historic, and our very own Simon McCoy was there to catch up with Zoe after her first show.
Fast forward a month and Simon is joining Zoe on air!!! He will be filling in for the programme's resident newsreader, Tina Daheley.
Simon is a "huge fan of Zoe Ball and when they announced that they would need someone to fill this position (he) got in touch immediately!"
This will be Simon's first piece of radio broadcasting, which is interesting given his extensive career as a TV broadcaster- Royal Correspondent for Sky, reporting from the front line in war zones and famously outside central London hospitals awaiting the birth of Royal babies.
Simon has assured us that his lack of experience in radio was not a conscious choice: "a job in TV came my way and I grabbed it, but radio is exciting and a lot of fun, and heck, I've certainly got the face for it..." he adds.
Given this show is the most listened to Breakfast Show in Europe is Simon feeling nervous? “I’ve spent a few hours rehearsing with the team at Radio 2 and I’m feeling confident, although it could all go horribly wrong so make sure to listen in!".
Do not miss Simon this Thursday 28th Feb and Friday 1st March on Radio 2's Breakfast Show, where he'll join Zoe and the rest of the gang who he has described as "a tight family unit" that he is excited to work with!
